Evaluation Question 4)

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Throughout the year, I have used different and new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages of the course. These new technologies that I have used have enabled me to:
1) Learn new technologies and gain knowledge from them
2) Challenge myself to another technology and gradually click to it
3) Know new media technologies to use for different queries.

I know now so many different new media technologies to use for different things, Final Cut Express for editing, YouTube for uploading, Surveymonkey for surveys and results, Coverdude For digipaks etc.
The presentation below gives more information about them.

Evaluation Question 3)

3) What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Looking through my audience feedback that i have recieved through using the most common feed back on surveymonkey.com, verbally from an audience etc. I have learnt and gained alot of knowledge of things that i didnt acknowledge before hand and do know now.

When using survey moneky, I did two different surveys one before making my music video and after showing people my completed music video. The after music video feed back was positive enough for my liking and exactly what i wanted to see from my audience. When giving people my survey, 83.3% of my audience were female and only 16.7% were male. This shows that a higher number and majority of my audience watching my music video was female, this is ironic becasue before making our music video we wanted to have a female bound viewers due to the fact of the lyrics, the aim of the music video was obviously going to be females so having such a higher number of females viewing it and doing our survey was a good thing as they could relate to the music video more than males.

12 people answered this question, which was 'What would you give the music video out of 10?'. Fantastically, 8-10 people gave our music video the highest number which was 8 to 10 out of 10 which is great! This shows us that people are obviously giving us a high ranking which is brillaint. 25% gave us a 5-8 which is reasonably okay, from this question on my survey i have learnt that 3 people who did our survey see our video to be at a decent standard which is a understandble response and expected from our audience. From the responses from this survey question I have learned that our audience think well of our music video from giving it a reasonable and decent response out of 10 for the video. Even more so to those 9 people who gave a high number of 8-10 out of 10.

The feedback from this question has gave me a bit of knowledge from the response. 11 people said that our music video was realistic which is what we wanted to hear and 1 person said that our music video was reasonably realistic which is understandable. Looking back on our music video we can see that bits that are realsitic and sort of realistic which is a good thing to do as an artist becasue you can then see the things that you can work on for next time.

This is a screen shot image taken from our music video, this a kind of shot that i believe to be reaslistic for a music video due to the angle and lightening that we have put in to our video.

On the other hand, looking through the video and looking for bits that aren't as realisitc as others this part of the video would be it. I think this because of the fact of the background and ground not matching. It is realisitc with the microphone and Amanda singing to the camera but just the background and ground i think doesnt match enough.

There are both negative imputs of improvements that could of been made that i can accurately see and the mainly positive feedback from my audience about my music video which are both just as vitally important than the other. Recieving feedback from an audience helps you to gain the knowledge that you need on understanding what your audience thinks of your video and also encourages you to realise the improvements and things you could have changed about my music video.

Evaluation Question 2)

2) How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts (DVD didgipak, Magazine advert)?

Making our ancillary texts like our digipak and magazine advert, we wanted to make the link between them and our music video clearly obvious and noticeable to the audience watching over. We looked back over our video and thought through what we wanted to become on our digipak and magazine advert. Throughout the whole of our music video there are constant black and white flash back sequences where the image is make black and white, this is a significant part of our music video so we wanted to use that and put that influence on to our digipak and magaizne advert. We used the same image for our digipak cover for our magazine advert. This was that when our target audience would see our digipak or magazine advert they would automatically remember what they are looking at and looking for, the black and white effect and red lips edit is a essential opener for the audience.

Therefore, by using the same image and theme for both of our ancillary products it enables them to be tied together and work effectively.

Here you can see the similarites and the link between the two products :

How i have used the same picture for both the magazine advert and the front of the digipak, the same colour scheme of black and whbite and lip colour effect showing through on the image.

Evaluation Question 1)

1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Within our media music video, there are lots of different shots throughout the video where we have used developed and challenged the forms and conventions of real media products. The whole process of using these media products was for guidance and to use some of their ideas and interpretate them in a way which suited us better.  We researched in to different artist like what we done from the beginning of our project and looked for specific artist which had the same type of vibe and impression on a target audience that would suit our music video e.g. Rihanna, Beyonce, Adele etc. All of these artist our ones that target a female type of audience which sings about love, being in love etc.

Real Media Products - R'n'B Artists

Rihanna is a very well known artist who we have looked to for guidance throughout the course of making our media product. When making our ancillary task we used her for ideas and researched her in more depth. In this shot of her music video 'We Found Love', there are shots which you may see as similar to our music video. First of all, her song title and impression is very similar to our own, so of course there would be shots within the video that we could use for our own. The shot of the male and female kissing affectionately standing infront of a window was a clever idea as it creates a shadow affect of the faces.
We have used this shot from the real media product and made it into our own shot but havent completly done the exact same thing that Rihanna has done. We used the whole idea of
kissing showing each other affection in certain way, but we didnt use the window shot as when we were filming is was very dark outside so you wouldn't of been able to see Amanda and Mitchell.  Both shots from our music video and from the real media product are both a medium shot cutting both the bodies off from the waist downwards.

Beyonce Knowles has been around in the music industry for over a decade and creates some of the best music videos around, so researching in to her music video was a benefit for us as we could challenge and use the forms and conventions of her music video. In the shot to the left hand side it's a close up shot of Beyonce's face. This shot has purposely been taken from the angle with a light shinning behind Beyonce creating a bouncing of the light effect on the back of her creating an angelic look to this shot in particular creating a blur look to her face yet very well thought out and impacting shot.
We challenge this convention used in this music video by using this idea of creating a light effect of the close up shot but challenge and impressed it differently. Instead of Beyonce having a normal background we shot it making a black background which make the light from the background even brighter than it actually it is reflecting off of Amanda's head and face. I think that by challenging the convention of the shot in Beyonce's video has made this shot so effect because of the impact of the bright light in the background and the black background.

Using Beyonce again, inside her video "Me, myself & i", we took the most powerful and inspirational shot throughout the whole of the music video and this shot was when Beyonce was shot singing inside of her bath but in this video. We then used this prodicomant and put it in to our music video which you see with both of the images.

R'n'B Conventions
In the majority of R'n'B music video's, there will usually be a scene of sexual or affectionate proceedings within it depending on the actual song. In our song its a very emotions affectionate song so we decided to use and develop the R'n'B convention of the music video of these scene and put it into our music video.  I think we used the right amount of sexual and affectionate behaviour within our video with out it being offensive in anyway shape or form.

Media Product

Our song for our music video is from the R'n'B genre and the beat and actual music of the song is of a very slow pace so when researching on the different artists to look at to help with our video we looked at the different transitions and pace they used there transitions at with their music video. We used lots of smooth and slow fade ins and out through our video, just like many other real media product music videos use. Like the image to the left hand side we have used a smooth fade out on two images.

Lip synching

All music videos require the technique of lip synching when doing a music video, we learned how to correctly use the technique of lip synching properly for our music video. The developing of the media convention shows our development as students, we made show that when lip synching it was in time with our music and looked as if she was really singing.

After Music Video Survey Results Analysis

After uploading my music video,  my music video on Youtube has recieved 278 views. I created a survey again on surveymonkey.com to get feedback on what the audience thought of my music video.

Here are screen grabs of the results :

A large amount of 83.3% of my audience doing the survey were actually female and only 16.7% were male. This is ironic because before doing the survey and whilst making the music video we knew that majority of our audience would be aimed at and be females as the song and the music video is very female orientated.

The second question on survey on survey monkey was asking the audience after watching my music video what they thoughts and opinions were of the video, and what they would rate the music video out of 10 being the highest and 1 being the lowest. I gave them a ranking of 1-4 being as unsatisfactory number, 5-8 as decent and 8-10 being a successfully high number ranking.  25.0% of our audience had given us the decent 5-8 number out of 10 for our music video which is a good feed back for us. Amazingly, 75% of our audience thankfully gave us the highest number ranking of 8-10 out of 10 for the feed back for our video which is fantastic and exactly what all of us wanted for our video.

The last and most important question of this survey was asking the audience whether our music video was realistic enough as a music video or not really realistic at all. 91.7% of our audience gave us the Yes answer for this question, which is excellent and what we wanted to achieve as I didn't really want anyone to chose the No answer for this question as we did want to achieve a realistic music video and not blaently non realistic music video. A small amount of 8.3% of the audience chose that our video was reasonably realistic which is a good response from the audience, as we know that some peoples standards for a music video are going to be exceptionally high so recieving this answer is good.
All of this feed back had made me learn a lot about the music video industry and our music video ourselves. The expectations for the music video as real media products are so high and that the criticisms and feed back are always vital and helping for realising what we could of done and what we have done and how the audience like it.

Digipak

This is our completed digipak put together just as a real media product would look like. We have six images on each selection of the digipak, the first image consists of the front cover with the name title of the album. We used the front image of our digipak to be the same as our magazine advert for our music video so that the audience would recognise our magazine advert as seeing the same image on our digipak. The next three images are of Amanda, these images were put on here to show off Amanda and show the audience the type of feel the album will be about. For example, the second image with the flowers gives off a female loving type of feeling to the audience which is our aim. The fifth image on the digipak is the credits page which is where I have put all of the musicians, vocalists that feature within the album, contributions to the album and a section where we have wrote that a short paragraph where were thanking our 'fans' for there contribution to inspiring her to make the album. A copyright section and the signature.

The last image on the didgipak is where all of the tracks listed on the album are,  Corinne Vielle website and the barcode needed for the album.
